The power of storytelling has not diminished in contemporary culture. Our stories show over and over how positive character traits are rewarded when we encourage children to embrace these qualities. The power of stories to teach is most fully realized when the tales are told because tellers reveal in a hundred subtle ways their own approval or disapproval of the actions and events they are narrating. Contemporary children still need stories and a "grandparent" to tell them.
